Jan. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Jeff Bezos, chief executive officer of Amazon.com Inc. gives the Galapagos Islands five stars, though getting sick there doesn’t rate quite as highly.
The founder of the biggest online retailer was airlifted on Jan. 1 by an Ecuadorian Navy helicopter because of a medical emergency caused by kidney stones, according to Drew Herdener, a spokesman for the Seattle-based company. Bezos was on a cruise of the Pacific Ocean archipelago.
The CEO, who will turn 50 this month, had “a good outcome,” Herdener wrote in an e-mailed statement. “No surgery was required.”
Bezos, who is also the new owner of the Washington Post newspaper, is No. 13 on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, a ranking of the world’s wealthiest people, with an estimated net worth of $35.8 billion.
“Galapagos: five stars. Kidney stones: zero stars,” Bezos wrote in an e-mail after he left the islands, Herdner said.
