Jan. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Royal Bank of Canada, the country’s second-largest lender by assets, appointed New York-based investment-banking chief Blair Fleming to a new role as head of RBC Capital Markets in the U.S.

Fleming, 52, who maintains responsibility for U.S. investment banking, will report to Doug McGregor, 57, the unit’s chief executive officer, for the new role, Gillian McArdle, a spokeswoman for the Toronto-based bank, said today in an interview.

Royal Bank’s capital markets unit also appointed Mike Bowick to head of global markets, a new role based in Toronto, McArdle said. Bowick, who was previously co-head of global equities, will oversee sales and trading of global equities, fixed income and currencies, commodities futures and electronic trading, she said.
