May 12 (Bloomberg) -- Sound Global Ltd., a Chinese water- treatment company that trades on Hong Kong’s exchange, acquired Humen Green Source Water Co. for 202 million yuan ($32.4 million) to expand in China’s sewage-treatment market.
Humen Green Source is involved in two sewage-treatment projects in Dongguan City, Guangdong province, Sound Global said today in a statement. The purchase follows three sewage- treatment plants bought late last year that are operated by Beijing Municipal Group Co., Sound Global said.
China has stepped up its campaign to try to curb air, water and soil contamination in the most populous nation. The premier declared “war” on smog in March but since then water supplies have been contaminated by oil pipeline leaks and food and drug safety issues have prompted renewed public worries.
