July 25 (Bloomberg) -- Solar Frontier K.K., a unit of Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K., will build a 13-megawatt solar power station in northern Japan.

Solar Frontier and the world heritage town of Hiraizumi have agreed on the plan, Tokyo-based Solar Frontier said in a statement today. Hiraizumi is in Iwate prefecture.

Construction will begin in March and the project will be completed in 2016, according to the statement.

Hiraizumi earned UNESCO world heritage status in 2011 for its historical temples, gardens and archaeological sites, Solar Frontier said.
